Traffic Head Constable demoted for dancing on road

A traffic head constable in Indore has been demoted to the rank of constable after a video showing him dancing on the road while regulating traffic went viral on television and social media.
The incident involved Ranjit Singh, a traffic policeman attached to the Indore city traffic wing in Madhya Pradesh. In the widely circulated video, he was seen performing dance steps resembling the Michael Jackson “moonwalk” while giving traffic signals, drawing criticism for unprofessional conduct while on duty.
Following the video going viral, the Madhya Pradesh Police ordered an inquiry into the incident. Based on the findings,
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dantodya issued orders demoting Ranjit Singh from the post of head constable to constable as a disciplinary measure.
Police officials said that the action was taken for violation of service conduct rules and for bringing disrepute to the police force. They added that maintaining discipline and professionalism on duty is mandatory for all personnel, especially those deployed in public-facing roles such as traffic management. Meanwhile, a separate departmental inquiry is also under way against Ranjit Singh based on a complaint filed by a woman. According to police sources, the woman alleged that the policeman had contacted her through social media and asked her to come to Indore, assuring that he would arrange a flight ticket for her. Senior police officials confirmed that the demotion order was issued in connection with the traffic incident, while the inquiry related to the woman’s complaint is being pursued independently. Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation, they said.
