Union Bank of India’s special pensioners’ savings account, “Union Samman”, enabled the family of a deceased pensioner to receive financial assistance of Rs. 12 lakh during the 2026 Life Certificate Submission Camp organised by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Pensioners’ Association at Sri Kamakodi Kamakshi Mandapam, Maravaneri, Salem, on July 8.
The deceased pensioner, Thangavel, had maintained a Union Samman savings account at the Union Bank of India, Namakkal-Trichy Road Branch. As per the terms of the Union Samman scheme, a cheque for Rs. 12 lakh was presented to his legal heir, Nallammal.
The cheque was handed over by P. M. Senthilkumar, Regional Head, and Deputy General Manager Union Bank of India, Salem Region. Addressing the gathering, he explained the benefits of the Union Samman savings account meant exclusively for pensioners and said the scheme offers insurance benefits without collecting any separate insurance premium from account holders.
Following the awareness programme, several pensioners shifted their savings accounts from other banks to Union Bank of India by opening Union Samman accounts at the bank’s special camp. Customer grievances were also received and resolved on the spot during the camp.
The event was organised by the office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Pensioners’ Association.
