The Indian Air Force’s Induction Publicity and Exhibition Vehicle (IPEV) visited Kumaraguru Institutions on Wednesday, offering an interactive platform to inspire youth to join the armed forces.
More than 100 NCC cadets from various colleges across Coimbatore participated in the programme, gaining firsthand exposure to career opportunities in the Indian Air Force. The mobile exhibition featured interactive displays, simulators and guidance sessions on various entry pathways into the force.
Group Captain V. Somasundar, a veteran helicopter pilot with over 30 years of service, addressed the gathering as chief guest. He encouraged students to choose careers that offer true job satisfaction and shared that he had never felt reluctant to go to work during his long tenure.
Drawing from his experience, he spoke about his postings in the Siachen Glacier, Srinagar valley and his role in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He also highlighted his contribution as a flight instructor, training some of India’s first women fighter pilots.

Emphasising the increasing role of technology in defence, he said the Indian Air Force is looking to recruit more engineering graduates to manage advanced aircraft systems, meteorological services and air traffic control.
Rear Admiral V. Mohandoss (Retd.), Director of Defence Projects at Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation, praised the initiative and noted the growing awareness among youth about careers in the armed forces. He said the Services Selection Board selection process has been modernised with the use of advanced and Artificial Intelligence-based psychological assessment tools developed by DRDO, ensuring transparency and merit-based selection.
Students also interacted with Group Captain Binu Koshy, a veteran Air Traffic Controller and experienced Services Selection Board interviewing officer, who provided insights into the selection process and career prospects in the Indian Air Force.
