Security has been tightened across Coimbatore ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on Saturday for an election campaign rally.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public meeting at CODISSIA Grounds at 5 p.m. in support of National Democratic Alliance candidates, including Vanathi Srinivasan from Coimbatore North and Union Minister L. Murugan from Avinashi.
He is expected to arrive at Coimbatore airport from New Delhi and travel by road to the venue before returning to Delhi after the Program.
Extensive arrangements have been made at the venue, including seating, drinking water, sanitation and parking facilities, with thousands of party workers and supporters expected to attend.
Around 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city, while Central security forces and the Special Protection Group have taken control of key locations, including the rally venue and airport.
Several areas including Avinashi Road, CODISSIA, Peelamedu, Singanallur, Nehrunagar and surrounding localities have been declared high-security
zones.
Drone operations have been banned in these areas from Friday evening to Saturday evening, with strict action warned against violators.
Vehicle checks have been intensified at all entry points to the city, and surveillance has been stepped up at bus stands, railway stations and other crowded
places.
Security agencies also conducted a full-scale rehearsal ahead of the visit to ensure smooth movement and safety of the Prime Minister.
