Cecily, recognised as the first woman constable in the history of the Tamil Nadu Police, passed away in Chennai on Thursday following age-related illness. She was 82.
Cecily joined the Tamil Nadu Police in 1973 and went on to create history through her distinguished service. Owing to her dedication and efficiency, she received successive promotions and became one of the first women Assistant Inspectors in the State police force in 1977.
During her career, she earned several commendations and honours, including appreciation from former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for her role in maintaining law and order and crime prevention.
She served in various police stations across the State and retired in 2005 as Inspector of the Law and Order Wing at Neelankarai Police Station in Chennai.
Her husband, Soosai Manickam, also served in the police department and retired as an Inspector.
Cecily is survived by her son and daughter. Her body was kept at her residence in Pachaiyappan Nagar, Palavakkam, where police personnel and members of the public paid their last respects by placing wreaths.
