Actor Dhanush paid his last respects to veteran filmmaker and actor Bharathiraja, who passed away at the age of 84 after suffering from age-related ailments.
Bharathiraja breathed his last at his residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, triggering an outpouring of grief across the Tamil film industry and among his countless admirers.
Following the news of his demise, several leading personalities from the film fraternity and political circles visited his residence to offer their condolences and pay homage to the legendary filmmaker.
Among them was actor Dhanush, who visited Bharathiraja’s residence and paid tribute to the veteran director. Dhanush and Bharathiraja had shared screen space in the successful Tamil film Thiruchitrambalam, where the veteran filmmaker played a key role.
Meanwhile, Bharathiraja’s mortal remains were taken to his native place for the final rites. Large numbers of fans, film personalities and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.
Widely known as “Iyakkunar Imayam,” Bharathiraja revolutionised Tamil cinema through his realistic storytelling and memorable portrayal of rural life. His passing marks the end of an era in Tamil cinema, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire generations of filmmakers and actors.
