An Integrated Dam Safety Assessment Team inspected the Sholayar and Nirar dams in Valparai under the National Dam Safety Act.
The Sholayar Dam, located near Valparai in Coimbatore district, is one of the key dams of the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project. The team inspected the dam as part of the National Dam Safety Programme and is expected to submit a detailed assessment report.
The inspection team was headed by Bajaj, former chairman of the Central Water Commission. The members included Selvam, a retired Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Padmanabhan, a retired official, and Shirivatsala Kulanthaiyar, an expert in the Geotechnical Engineering Division.
The team inspected various aspects of the dam as part of the safety assessment.
Parambikulam-Aliyar Project Superintending Engineer Karthikeyan, Regional Engineer Murugesan and other officials participated in the inspection.
