Avinashilingam Institute strengthens Women for boardroom leadership

Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women organised a one-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Building Board-Level Competencies for Women Leaders” at its Academic Council Hall on Saturday to strengthen leadership skills and corporate governance awareness among women professionals and academicians.
The programme was organised by the Research and Development Centre in association with the Alumnae Association, Centre for Women’s Studies, Department of Business Administration and the Centre for Continuing Education. Around 50 faculty members, researchers, alumni and women professionals participated.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. V. Bharathi Harishankar, who presided over the inaugural session, urged women professionals to confidently assume leadership roles with integrity, competence and social responsibility. She emphasised the importance of strategic thinking, ethical leadership and effective governance in board-level positions.
Prof. V. Ramakrishnan, Professor of Practice at the institute, delivered sessions on corporate governance and business governance, highlighting board responsibilities, governance frameworks and ethical decision-making through practical case studies. K. Balaji, former Managing Director of Kasturi & Sons Ltd., Chennai, addressed participants on governance practices in boards and family-owned businesses, focusing on succession planning and sustainable governance.
Earlier, Dr. P. Lalitha welcomed the gathering, while Dr. R. Annapoorani outlined the objectives of the programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. K. Ramya.
The programme reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to empowering women with leadership and governance competencies for effective participation on corporate and institutional boards.
