World’s heaviest man, Guinness Record holder Juan Pedro Franco Salas dies at 41

Juan Pedro Franco Salas, the Mexican man who held the Guinness World Record as the world’s heaviest person, has passed away following serious health complications. He was 41.
Hospital authorities said Juan Pedro Franco Salas died on December 24 while undergoing treatment for a severe kidney infection at a hospital in Mexico. His condition deteriorated due to multiple pre-existing health problems.
Franco Salas was officially listed in the Guinness World Records in 2017 as the world’s heaviest man. At that time, he weighed around 600 kg at the age of 32, attracting global attention.
In earlier interviews, Franco Salas had spoken about his struggles, stating that his body had gone beyond his control despite repeated attempts to follow strict diets. Due to his condition, he was unable to stand or move independently and required the help of at least eight people for basic movement.
After years of medical intervention, strict dietary control and two major surgeries, he managed to reduce his weight to about 260 kg, less than half of his peak weight.
He had also successfully recovered from COVID-19 in
2020.
Despite these efforts, Franco Salas continued to suffer from diabetes, hypertension and thyroid-related ailments. A recent severe kidney infection proved fatal.
His death has once again drawn attention to the serious health risks associated with extreme obesity and the need for sustained medical care and support.
