A sensational twist has emerged in the death of a senior official of the Life Insurance Corporation of India who was initially believed to have died in an accidental fire at the LIC office near Madurai Railway Station.
The LIC office, located on the second floor of a building opposite the railway station, caught fire on December 17 at around 8.30 pm. In the incident, Kalyani, 55, a Senior Manager from Delhi, was found charred to death inside the office. Another employee, Ram, an Assistant Administrative Officer, sustained burn injuries and was admitted to hospital.
In the immediate aftermath, officials suspected that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. However, a detailed police investigation has now revealed that the incident was not accidental but a planned murder.
Police investigations revealed that Ram, who was working closely with Kalyani, allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire. The shocking revelation came after sustained questioning and forensic analysis of the scene.
According to police sources, a dispute had arisen over delays in settling death claim policies. Several LIC agents had reportedly complained to Kalyani regarding the issue. During this period, Ram is said to have become enraged after Kalyani warned that she would report his conduct and lapses to higher authorities.
Acting out of anger and fear of disciplinary action, Ram allegedly committed the brutal act inside the office premises. After setting the fire, he attempted to project the incident as an accident but sustained burn injuries in the process.
Based on the findings, Madurai police arrested Ram and registered a murder case against him. Further investigation is under way to determine whether anyone else was involved or aware of the crime.
The revelation that a senior LIC official was murdered inside a government office has sent shockwaves across Madurai and raised serious concerns over workplace safety and internal monitoring.
