The 57th death anniversary of former Chief Minister Perarignar Anna was observed in Chennai on Monday with a peaceful rally and floral tributes, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
On the occasion, leaders and functionaries of various political parties paid homage to the Dravidian stalwart by garlanding his statues and portraits across the State.
As part of the official programme, the Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Perarignar Anna on Wallaja Road and paid his respects.
Following this, a peaceful rally was taken out from the Perarignar Anna statue on Wallaja Road to the Anna Memorial at Marina Beach under the leadership of the Chief Minister.
DMK ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and party cadres participated in large numbers.
Among those who took part in the rally were MPs Dayanidhi Maran and A. Raja, and Ministers K.N. Nehru and P.K. Sekar Babu.
The rally proceeded in an orderly manner, reflecting the party’s tradition of commemorating the legacy of Perarignar Anna through disciplined public observance.
At the Anna Memorial, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid a wreath and paid homage. Senior leaders including Ministers Duraimurugan and K.N. Nehru, along with MPs Dayanidhi Maran and A. Raja, followed by offering floral tributes. After paying respects at the Anna Memorial, the Chief Minister also visited the Kalaignar Memorial, where he offered homage to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, marking the occasion by recalling the enduring contributions of Dravidian leaders to Tamil Nadu’s social and political landscape.
