In a dramatic rescue amid heavy snowfall, Indian Army personnel carried a pregnant woman on their shoulders for several kilometres in the remote Karnah sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure she received timely medical
care. The woman, a resident of Jabti Bijaldar village, went into labour as the region remained cut off due to several feet of snow blocking roads.
Efforts were made to shift her to hospital in an ambulance, but the vehicle got stuck near Conagabra after moving a short
distance. Hearing about her critical condition, soldiers from the 104th Regiment stationed at the Tangdhar sub-division headquarters rushed to the spot. They placed the woman on a stretcher and carried her across the snowbound stretch to a safer point. A JCB machine was deployed to clear the snow-clogged road and create a passage for the ambulance. With coordinated efforts from the Army, police, health department and local residents, the woman was later transported to hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Residents praised the swift and humanitarian response of the security forces and officials, stating that timely intervention averted a possible tragedy in the snow-isolated area.
