A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested for allegedly sending fake bomb threat emails to several schools in Gurugram, triggering panic among students, parents and school authorities.
Police identified the as Saurabh Vishwas, also known as Michael.
Investigation revealed that he had illegally entered India from Bangladesh nearly nine years ago and had been residing in West Bengal using forged documents.
The incident surfaced on January 28 after multiple schools in Gurugram received emails claiming that explosives had been planted on their premises.
Emergency response teams, including bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units and fire services, rushed to the locations and conducted thorough checks.
However, no explosives were found.
Cyber Crime Police of South Gurugram launched an intensive probe to trace the origin of the emails.
Based on technical evidence, Vishwas was arrested in Gujarat on March 19.
Police said Vishwas initially worked in a car manufacturing company before moving into digital marketing and graphic design as a self-employed professional over the past five years.
Further investigation revealed that he had connections through a social media platform with a Bangladeshi national identified as Mamunur Rashid.
Rashid allegedly paid him in cryptocurrency to procure Gmail accounts.
Vishwas is said to have created and supplied around 300 Gmail accounts in exchange for about 250 US dollars.
One of these accounts was later used to send the hoax bomb threat emails to schools in Gurugram.Police are continuing investigations to trace other individuals involved in the
network.
