A bomb threat email triggered panic at the Coimbatore court complex on Tuesday morning, prompting an intensive search by police before it was declared a hoax.
According to police, staff at the Lawyers’ Training Centre office near the Racecourse checked their official email around 10.45 a.m. and found a message claiming that a bomb had been planted inside the Coimbatore court premises and would explode soon.
The information was immediately passed on to the Racecourse police.
Police teams rushed to the spot and conducted a thorough search of court halls and office rooms using sniffer dogs and metal detectors.
After an extensive inspection, officials confirmed that no explosive materials were found and termed the threat a hoax.
Sources said similar anonymous emails had earlier targeted government offices including the Collectorate and Passport Office.
Police suspect the sender is using encrypted platforms, posing a challenge to trace the origin. Investigation is under way.
