In a deeply moving act of humanity, the organs of a 25-year-old man declared brain-dead were donated, giving a new lease of life to seven patients.
The deceased, Ranjith Eswaramoorthi, a resident of Erode district, met with a road accident near Perundurai on December 17 at around 11 a.m. He was first taken to a nearby private hospital for initial treatment and later shifted to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital on Avanashi Road, Coimbatore, for specialised care.
Despite intensive treatment, his condition did not improve and he was declared brain-dead on December 23. In an extraordinary gesture of courage and compassion, his sister Karthika and brother-in-law Praveen consented to donate his organs.
Following the guidelines of the Transplant Authority of the Tamil Nadu government, a multi-organ transplant team harvested the liver, kidneys, eyes, skin and bones. One kidney and the liver were transplanted at KMCH, while the other kidney along with the eyes, skin and bones were sent to another private hospital in Coimbatore. Through this noble act, seven individuals received a second chance at life. Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman of KMCH, honoured the family and expressed gratitude for their timely decision, stating that such selfless acts play a crucial role in creating awareness about organ donation and saving
lives.
