Delhi Police have arrested a self-styled godman for allegedly poisoning three persons to death after promising to convert Rs.2 lakh into Rs.3 lakh through a ritual.
The bodies of Randhir, 76, Shiva Naresh, 42, and Lakshmi, 40, were found inside a car parked near the Peeragarhi flyover in West Delhi last Sunday. Post-mortem reports indicated death due to poisoning.
Investigations revealed that the accused, identified as Kamruddin alias Sumruddin Baba, 72, a native of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, lured the victims with claims that he could perform a “Dhanvarsha” ritual, promising a rain of money and financial gain.
Police said the accused convinced the trio to bring Rs.2 lakh, assuring them he would turn it into Rs.3 lakh through tantric rituals. After gaining their confidence, he allegedly served them laddus laced with poison and provided alcohol and soft drinks mixed with sedatives.
CCTV footage analysis showed a fourth person inside the vehicle on the day of the incident, who was later identified as the accused. Initially attempting to mislead investigators, Kamruddin reportedly confessed during sustained interrogation.
Police sources said the accused had been linked to similar offences in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in the past. Investigators suspect he may have targeted several others in a similar manner. Further investigation is under way.
