GKNM Hospital Conducts State Level workshop On Cardiomyopathy

G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital organised a one-day Continuing Medical Education programme and workshop on cardiomyopathy in the city on February 22, attracting wide participation from the medical fraternity across Tamil Nadu.
The programme, held at Residency Towers, was inaugurated by Dr. G. Manoharan, Chief Medical Officer of the hospital. Eminent faculty members present on the occasion included Dr. Sambasivam, Chairman, Department of Cardiology; Dr. S. Natarajan, Senior Cardiologist; Dr. Santhosh, Director, Medical Affairs and Operations; Dr. Ragavendra, Medical Director – IOP; and Dr. R. Shanmuga Sundaram, Chief Consultant, Heart Failure Clinic and Echocardiography.
Around 200 delegates comprising cardiologists, physicians and postgraduate students from different parts of the State took part in the CME. The scientific sessions, led by senior experts, highlighted the latest developments in the diagnosis and management of cardiomyopathy.
Key deliberations focused on contemporary cardiac imaging techniques, emerging pharmacological therapies, device-based interventions and comprehensive heart failure management strategies. The workshop sessions offered practical demonstrations and interactive learning opportunities, enabling participants to strengthen their clinical skills and remain updated with current treatment protocols.
Cardiomyopathy is a disorder affecting the heart muscle, reducing its efficiency in pumping blood to the body. If left untreated, it can lead to complications such as heart failure, irregular heart rhythms and sudden cardiac arrest.
The organising team stated that the successful conduct of the CME underscores the hospital’s continued commitment to excellence in cardiac care through regular academic initiatives and knowledge-sharing platforms. Over the past five decades, the Department of Cardiology has evolved into a leading centre for advanced diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac services for both adult and paediatric patients in the region.
