A public relations project camp aimed at taking government welfare schemes directly to rural residents was held at the Kelur Veerakoil area in Polur taluk under the leadership of Tiruvannamalai District Collector K. Tharpagaraj.
The District Collector inspected exhibition stalls set up by various government departments, interacted with the public, received petitions and distributed welfare assistance to eligible beneficiaries. The camp was organised as part of the district administration’s initiative to conduct monthly public relations camps across all taluks to ensure that government schemes reach people at the grassroots level.
The camp held at Kelur Panchayat benefited residents from Kelur, Chitheri and Theppanandal villages. Officials from different departments explained the schemes implemented by their departments, the benefits offered and the procedures for availing them. Addressing the gathering, the District Collector said the primary objective of the public relations camps was to take government programmes directly to the people and to ensure timely solutions to public grievances. He said petitions received through the “Stalin With You” project camps had been examined and resolved.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s “Pudhumai Penn” scheme, he said the initiative provides Rs. 1,000 per month to girl students pursuing higher education beyond school to support their future aspirations. He emphasised that educating girls ensures long-term social and economic security and urged the public to completely boycott child marriage, stating that it adversely affects education and health.
As part of the camp, welfare assistance worth Rs. 9.58 lakh was distributed to 139 beneficiaries. The assistance included free housing plots, patta-related services, succession certificates, agricultural and horticultural inputs, financial assistance for natural deaths and new electronic family cards.
Senior district and taluk-level officials from various departments participated in the programme.
