In one of Madhya Pradesh’s biggest anti-corruption raids, the Lokayukta police have seized 2.7 kg of gold, 5.5 kg of silver, Rs 35 lakh in cash, and property documents worth several crores from the houses of retired Chief Engineer Govind Prasad Mehra of the Public Works Department.
The searches were carried out simultaneously at Mehra’s properties in Bhopal and Narmadapuram (formerly Hoshangabad) after allegations that he amassed huge wealth through corruption during his tenure.
Officials were stunned to find 17 tons of honey stocked at one of Mehra’s farmhouses in Saini village, near Sohagpur in Narmadapuram district. The raids also exposed that Mehra is building 32 luxury tourist resorts in the area and owns a PVC pipe factory along with multiple farmhouses.
Several high-end cars worth crores were also seized from his residences.
A senior Lokayukta officer said, “We have confiscated gold, silver, cash, vehicles, and property papers worth nearly Rs 60 crore. Further raids will be conducted at the houses of Mehra’s sons and relatives.”
