Only 5,000 allowed at Vijay’s Puducherry public meeting

The Puducherry Police have imposed a strict condition allowing only 5,000 people to attend the public meeting of TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) leader Vijay, scheduled to be held on December 9 at the Uppalam Port Ground.
Earlier, Vijay had planned to conduct a roadshow in Puducherry on December 5, but permission was denied by the police citing security reasons. However, the authorities stated that permission could be considered for a public meeting instead. Following this, TVK applied for permission to hold the meeting at the Uppalam Port Ground on December 9. Police officials later inspected the venue to assess safety and traffic arrangements.
Meanwhile, TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand met Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy recently. After the meeting, responding briefly to reporters, he confirmed that the public meeting would be held as scheduled.
In preparation for the event, TVK cadres began restoration work at the Uppalam Port Ground, which had developed water stagnation and uneven surfaces due to recent rains. Soil is being spread to level the ground. Party sources said that Vijay will address the gathering from the campaign bus itself and that no main stage will be erected at the venue. The police have also issued several conditions for granting permission. Only a maximum of 5,000 people will be allowed into the venue through a QR code-based entry system. The crowd must be divided into 10 enclosures, with 500 people in each. Drinking water facilities must be provided. The road leading to the port must remain open for traffic, with separate entry and exit routes for vehicles. Ambulances and fire engines must be kept on standby for both VIPs and the public. The entire non-meeting area must also be fully barricaded. The conditions were imposed in the interest of public safety and traffic regulation.
