Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital in Coimbatore facilitated the organ donation of a five-year-old boy from Udumalpet who was declared brain dead following a road accident, giving a new lease of life to four patients.
The donor was identified as V. Sivadhitya, son of S. Vignesh from Udumalpet in Tiruppur district. The child sustained severe injuries in a recent road traffic accident while travelling with his grandfather and was later admitted to Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital for advanced treatment.
Despite intensive medical care, Sivadhitya did not respond to treatment and was declared brain dead on March 12.
After counselling by doctors at Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital, the child’s parents came forward and consented to donate his organs. A team of multi-organ transplant surgeons harvested the liver, kidneys and heart in accordance with the guidelines of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu.
As per the allocation made by the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu, one kidney was transplanted at Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital for a patient awaiting
transplant. The other kidney, along with the liver and heart, was sent to private hospitals in Salem and Chennai for transplantation.
The management of Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital praised the parents for their noble gesture, stating that their decision helped save four lives and highlighted the importance of organ donation.
