The Chennai Police have issued summons to former Minister Senthil Balaji in connection with the alleged attempt to lure TVK MLAs with money to destabilise the Tamil Nadu government.
The action follows a complaint lodged by TVK MLA Dr. Ilaiyaraja, representing the Uthangarai Assembly constituency, alleging that he was offered Rs.35 crore to switch allegiance as part of a conspiracy to topple the government.
Based on the complaint, the police arrested eight persons, including Tirunavukkarasu, founder of the IPDS election survey agency, and several others allegedly linked to the conspiracy. During investigation, the accused reportedly told the police that a plan involving Rs.180 crore had been drawn up to induce TVK MLAs to defect.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Chennai Police on Saturday served summons to Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar at their ancestral residence in Rameswarapatti village in Karur district. The summons was received by Senthil Balaji’s father.
The police have directed Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar to appear before the investigating officers on July 6 for enquiry in connection with the case.
