Sengottaiyan, who was expelled from the AIADMK, resigned from his post as MLA.
Former Minister Sengottaiyan, who was removed from the AIADMK, resigned from his MLA post today. While it is said that he will join the TVK tomorrow, the Gopichettipalayam MLA, who won on the Two Leaves symbol, has resigned from his post. Sengottaiyan met Speaker Appavu and submitted his resignation letter.
He resigned before that as his post will be decided under the Anti-Defection Act if he changes parties.
With this, his Gobichettipalayam constituency has become vacant.
Earlier, when reporters questioned Sengottaiyan about joining the TVK he did not deny it. For the past two days, there has been information that former minister Sengottaiyan, who was expelled from the AIADMK, will join the TVK tomorrow along with his supporters.
Following this, the front doors of his house were locked since yesterday morning and no visitors were allowed. In the evening, supporters including former MP Sathyabhama were called to the house.
Following that, he left home in the evening to go to Chennai by car to Coimbatore airport. At that time, when reporters asked him if he was joining TVK, he smiled and did not deny it. When asked again, “Can I take your silence as consent?”, he still did not answer.
Following this, Sengottaiyan told reporters at the Coimbatore Peelamedu Airport, “In my 50-year political history, I have faced ups and downs and worked for the movement.”
They have decided that such a person should not even be a member of the party, and have given him a reward by expelling him. People like you know this mental anguish very well. There is no more to say about this, he said.
Meanwhile, there is a question of whether a by-election will be announced for the Gobi constituency. Already, 3 more constituencies are vacant in Tamil Nadu. The Senthamangalam constituency in Namakkal district is vacant due to the death of DMK MLA Ponnusamy. The constituency is also vacant due to the death of AIADMK MLA Amul Kandasamy from Valparai constituency. Former Speaker P.H. Pandian’s son Manoj Pandian won from the Alankulam constituency on behalf of the AIADMK in the last assembly elections, but he joined the DMK and resigned as an MLA. That constituency is also vacant.
But the chances of elections being held in these 4 constituencies are slim. There are only 5 months left for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. It is doubtful whether unnecessary expenses and arrangements will be made for the by-elections before that. In addition, SIR work is currently underway.
These works will be completed by the first week of December. After that, the final voter list will be available and there is time until January to file appeals.
Therefore, there is little chance of a by-election being held until January. Even if the election is announced, there is little chance of announcing it in January, holding the February election, and then holding the assembly election again in April.
Therefore, there is no possibility of a by-election for these constituencies.
