A tense situation prevailed in a village near Bandhavgarh National Park in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday afternoon after a tiger wandered out of the forest and entered the residential area, triggering panic among villagers.
According to local sources, residents screamed and fled in fear as the big cat moved into the village from the adjoining forest. During the commotion, a young man identified as Gopal was attacked by the tiger and sustained serious injuries. Villagers rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
To escape the animal, several residents climbed onto the rooftops of their houses and attempted to scare it away by shouting and making loud noises. Normal life in the village was disrupted for several hours as fear gripped the area.
Forest Department officials, alerted to the incident, rushed to the spot, tranquillised the tiger and later released it safely into the dense forest. The incident has once again heightened concerns over recurring human-wildlife conflict in villages located close to forest boundaries.
