Two tamil police officers elevated as DGP in UP

Two Tamil Nadu-born IPS officers, D. Prakash and L.V. Antony Dev Kumar, have been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police in Uttar Pradesh, with one of them likely to be appointed as the State’s full-time DGP.
D. Prakash, a native of Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district, entered the IPS in 1994 in his first attempt through the UPSC examination.
He holds postgraduate and MPhil degrees in Public Administration from Madras Christian College, Chennai. He is currently serving as Additional Director General of Police in the Uttar Pradesh Railway Police under the government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
L.V. Antony Dev Kumar, also from Tirunelveli district, hails from Vetiyaanvilai. He holds a Master’s degree along with a law qualification and joined the IPS in 1994.
Known for his integrity in service, he has held several key positions, including Superintendent of Intelligence in Agra.
He also headed the Special Protection Group formed for the security of the Ram Temple.
At present, he is serving as ADGP and heads the Rules and Manuals Division at the State Police Headquarters.
Both officers have now been elevated to the rank of DGP. Rajeev Krishna is currently holding charge as the acting DGP of Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government is in the process of selecting a permanent DGP and is expected to forward a panel of three senior officers to the Centre.
Prakash and Antony Dev Kumar are among those under consideration, raising the possibility of a Tamil officer heading the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Notably, around 32 officers from Tamil Nadu are serving in various capacities, including IAS, IPS, IRS and IFS, in Uttar
Pradesh. The promotion orders for Prakash and Antony Dev Kumar were issued by A. Dinesh Kumar, Director in the Union Home Ministry.
