Erode MP K.E. Prakash questioned in Parliament why the Tamil Nadu government’s proposal to bring metro rail to Coimbatore and Madurai was rejected.
His speech: In this, while the metro projects for Coimbatore and Madurai were rejected, how were similar projects approved for cities like Agra, Bhopal, Indore, and Nagpur?
I expected the Union government to provide a proper and fair answer in Parliament on this issue, which has greatly angered the people of Tamil Nadu, unlike what is being said in the media.
However, the Union government has once again given fabricated lies and preconceived notions as answers.
In the reasons for rejecting the metro rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai, the Union government has cleverly avoided mentioning the phrase ‘population is less than 20 lakhs’.
If they had mentioned this, they would have to explain how metro projects were approved for cities like Agra, Bhopal, Indore, and Nagpur, which have similar populations to Coimbatore and Madurai.
They have piled up a series of lies, stating that the number of people travelling would not be sufficient, that people would not come from the specified areas, that there are no routes to build the metro, and that bus service is sufficient for this
population.
Is the Union government ready to subject the project report submitted by the Tamil Nadu government to an independent or third-party review? In its response, the Union government has insulted Coimbatore, the Manchester of Tamil Nadu, and Madurai, the temple
city.
These two cities are experiencing multi-fold economic progress. This is happening through the unique and clear plans of the Tamil Nadu government.
Denying the scheme is an act of insulting the people of Coimbatore and Madurai, who contribute significantly to the GDP of Tamil Nadu and India through their hard work.
Furthermore, it is a tendency that disrespects the integrity of the local bodies elected by the people of these cities, which prepared the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the metro.
What all the people of Tamil Nadu are asking the central government is that Coimbatore and Madurai are the primary cities in India that are most deserving of a metro system.
