A woman who was reportedly declared brain dead by doctors miraculously survived after showing signs of life when the car carrying her home plunged into a roadside ditch in Uttar Pradesh.
Vineeta Shukla, wife of Kuldeep Shukla from Pilibhit district, had suddenly collapsed a few days ago. Her family initially rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment and later shifted her to Bareilly for advanced
care. However, doctors there reportedly informed the family that she was brain dead and advised them to take her back home. Heartbroken, her husband and relatives placed her in a car and began the journey back.
While travelling on the national highway near Hafizganj, the car accidentally veered into a ditch. During the commotion, family members noticed that Vineeta had started showing signs of breathing and body movement.
The shocked relatives immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital where doctor Rakesh Singh examined her. After reviewing the symptoms, he suspected a snakebite and administered anti-venom treatment while preparing the intensive care unit. The doctor explained that certain snakebites release neurotoxins that can cause victims to lose consciousness and show no movement in their limbs, often resembling brain death. According to the medical team, Vineeta began showing signs of recovery within 24 hours of receiving anti-venom. After about a week, she gradually regained consciousness and the ventilator support was removed. She is now able to walk and recover normally.
Kuldeep Shukla said that on the day of the incident his wife had taken medication for high blood pressure and soon after fainted. Despite treatment at several hospitals, there had been no improvement, leading doctors to advise the family to take her home. Vineeta later said she remembers taking medicine for high blood pressure but could not recall what happened afterwards.
Meanwhile, the National Highways Authority of India clarified in a statement that there were no potholes on the Bareilly–Sitarganj highway stretch and that the road, which handles heavy traffic, is being properly maintained.
