Chocolates used to lure Coimbatore girl before murder

Shocking details have emerged in the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore district, an incident that has triggered outrage across Tamil Nadu.
Police investigations revealed that the accused allegedly befriended the Class V student by frequently buying her chocolates before abducting and murdering her.
The girl’s family, originally from Nambi Nagar in Podanur, had shifted to a village near Pallapalayam in Sulur two months ago. Her parents were employed as construction workers.
One of the arrested accused, Mohanraj, lived near the victim’s house. Another accused, Karthi, who also worked in construction, used to visit Mohanraj frequently. During these visits, he allegedly became acquainted with the girl while she was playing near the house.
Investigators said Karthi gradually gained the child’s trust by regularly offering chocolates to her.
On the day of the incident, the girl’s father had gone to work while her mother was asleep at home. The child had been playing with her younger brother outside the house before going to a nearby shop.
Police said Karthi allegedly approached the girl there, spoke to her casually, promised her chocolates and took her away on a motorcycle. He later allegedly murdered the child and dumped the body in a well near Kannampalayam.
In connection with the case, police arrested Karthi and Mohanraj.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police Maheshwar Dayal inspected the crime scene after the girl’s body was recovered from the well area.
Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Welfare Minister S. S. Sivasankar visited the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore and consoled the grieving family members. Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar and Sulur Ex-MLA V. P. Kandasamy also met the family and expressed condolences.
The girl’s parents and relatives urged the government to ensure strict punishment for those responsible for the crime.
Police said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the postmortem examination being conducted at the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore.
