Man killed by six-member gang after signing bail at Chengalpattu Court

A 26-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by a six-member gang near the Chengalpattu bypass road after he returned from court where he had signed as part of his bail conditions in a murder case.
Veera alias Veeramurthy Krishnan, 26, a resident of the Singaperumal Koil area, was running a fast-food shop locally. He had been named a key accused in the murder of a youth identified as Akash in Singaperumal Koil about six months ago. Veeramurthy had subsequently obtained bail and was required to sign at the Chengalpattu court as part of the conditions.
After completing the court formalities, Veeramurthy left for home on his two-wheeler. When he reached a petrol station near Palaveli on the Chengalpattu bypass road, six men allegedly arrived on two two-wheelers and surrounded him.
The gang allegedly attacked him with weapons. Veeramurthy attempted to escape by running onto the road, but the attackers reportedly chased him, knocked him down and hacked him to death before fleeing the spot.
On receiving information, Chengalpattu district police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the murder was allegedly carried out in retaliation for Akash’s killing six months ago.
Police are examining CCTV footage and conducting a search to trace the suspects.
