Eatery owner held for controversial banner on Vinayaka

Police in Tirunelveli have arrested an eatery owner who erected a banner showing Lord Vinayaka eating biryani.
Police said a banner portraying an image of the God eating biryani had been erected near an eatery at V.M. Chathram in Palayamkottai. Following objections on social media by Hindu Munnani and others, one Selvaraj filed a complaint with Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital Police Station against the shop owner M. Jayanth, 30.
Subsequently, the police registered a case under Section 299 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class of citizens by insulting the religion or beliefs) and arrested Jayanth.
