Rare and dangerous marine creatures known as Blue Dragon fish were found washed ashore at Kasimedu beach in Chennai, raising concern among marine experts and authorities.
Experts cautioned that the Blue Dragon, scientifically known as Glaucus atlanticus, is highly venomous despite its attractive appearance. A sting or direct contact with the creature can cause severe pain, swelling, nausea and allergic reactions. However, a large number of people gathered at Kasimedu beach to witness the unusual sight, ignoring repeated warnings.
Marine specialists explained that the Blue Dragon feeds on venomous jellyfish and stores their toxins, making it harmful to humans. They advised the public not to touch or attempt to handle the creature under any circumstances.
Officials recalled that a similar incident occurred last year in Spain, where authorities temporarily closed a beach after Blue Dragon fish were found washed ashore. The public has been urged to remain cautious and immediately alert officials if such rare marine organisms are spotted along the coastline.
