Ancient feminine wisdom rooted in India’s mystical Yogini tradition is being reintroduced to the public in Coimbatore through Ekaa – The One, a multi-state art and cultural exhibition currently on display at the Kasturi Sreenivasan Art Gallery on Avinashi Road.
After receiving an encouraging response in Kochi, the exhibition is being held in Coimbatore on January 21 and 22 from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm.
It brings together art, scholarship and spiritual exploration to shed light on the largely forgotten Yogini cult of ancient India.

Conceptualised and presented by Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan, artist, author and art entrepreneur, Ekaa – The One:
The 64 Yoginis Trail forms part of an ambitious 81-day national journey spanning 16 states and nearly 10,000 kilometres by road.
The exhibition features 64 original paintings, each representing a Yogini, powerful feminine deities once revered across temple networks in medieval India.
Adding a cinematic dimension to the initiative is Y64: Whispers of the Unseen, a documentary film directed by filmmaker Dr. Jain Joseph, founder of NEO Film School, and produced by Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan.
The film documents pilgrimages to remote Yogini temples across the country, many of them neglected, endangered or located in difficult terrain.
The documentary blends visual documentation with the artist’s creative process, offering rare insights into ancient spiritual practices and philosophies centred on feminine power, knowledge systems that have long remained outside mainstream historical discourse.
The exhibition is supported by curatorial guidance from Shahzada Khurram, ensuring a balance between academic rigour and artistic sensitivity.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan said the project seeks to restore the Yoginis to public consciousness not as relics of the past, but as living philosophies relevant to contemporary life.

She noted that their teachings on balance, coexistence, inner wisdom and leadership hold strong relevance in the modern world.
The project is the outcome of a decade-long research and travel journey undertaken by Dr. Beena across Yogini temple sites in India, combining field study, artistic interpretation and scholarly inquiry.
It aims to revive a spiritual lineage that places feminine energy at the centre of transformation rather than in a subordinate role.
For audiences in Coimbatore, Ekaa – The One offers a rare opportunity to engage with an influential yet often overlooked chapter of India’s spiritual history, reimagined through a contemporary artistic lens and grounded in extensive research.
