“I don’t want to die,” software engineer tells father before drowning in fog accident

A heart-wrenching road accident claimed the life of a 27-year-old software engineer in Noida on Sunday morning after his car plunged into a water-filled ditch amid dense fog, sending shockwaves through the area.

The deceased has been identified as Yuvraj Mehta, who was returning home after completing his night shift at a software company. Due to extremely poor visibility caused by thick fog, Yuvraj reportedly lost control of his car and veered off the road, falling into a deep ditch filled with water along the roadside.

Police said the accident occurred in the early morning hours when visibility was near zero. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot along with rescue teams and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force. Rescue operations continued for nearly five hours as teams struggled to locate and retrieve the submerged vehicle.

Despite sustained efforts, Yuvraj was pulled out only after considerable delay and was declared dead. A delivery worker who happened to pass by the area earlier had reportedly noticed the accident and attempted to help, but the rapidly sinking vehicle made rescue impossible.

In a tragic detail that has deeply moved many, Yuvraj managed to make a phone call to his father while trapped inside the car. “Dad, I’m drowning. Please come and save me. I don’t want to die,” he cried, according to his grieving father, who later spoke to the media.

Family members and local residents have blamed the accident on the absence of proper warning signs and reflectors along the road. They alleged that the ditch had no barricades or warning lights, making it extremely dangerous, especially during foggy conditions.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. The incident has renewed calls for improved road safety measures to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
