India Pushes Global Textile partnerships at high-level Business evening in Singapore

The India International Textile Machinery Exhibition Association (IITMEA) recently hosted a high-profile Business Evening in Singapore under the theme “Shaping the Future of Textiles – From Tradition to High-Tech.” The event brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles, diplomats, global industry leaders, technocrats and entrepreneurs to discuss growth opportunities in the Indian textile and textile engineering sectors.
More than 180 delegates from the US, UK, China, Sweden, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Turkey, Germany and Singapore participated. Held alongside the CITME-Asia expo, the programme aimed to strengthen trade partnerships, accelerate technology sourcing and explore manufacturing joint ventures in India.
Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, said India has become one of the world’s key hubs for weaving and knitting machinery installations, reflecting rapid expansion in the textile and apparel value chain. With a domestic market of 1.4 billion consumers, India remains a major destination for global investment and collaboration.
Dr. Shilpak Ambule, High Commissioner of India to Singapore, noted that Singapore is India’s sixth-largest trading partner and its biggest in ASEAN. He emphasised the strong textile ties between the two nations, combining India’s production strength with Singapore’s global distribution and design network.
Reliance Industries’ Hemant Sharma, President – Polyester, highlighted the textile sector’s crucial role in India’s manufacturing growth, adding that it will significantly support India’s goal of becoming a $30-trillion economy by 2047.
British Textile Machinery Association CEO Jason Kent called the ongoing UK–India FTA negotiations a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to build a more sustainable and balanced global textile framework.
IITMEA President Ketan Sanghvi pointed out a 25% rise in Diwali 2025 spending, signalling India’s robust market. He announced that India ITME 2026 will be held from December 4 to 9, 2026, in Greater Noida.
The event concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and drive high-tech growth in the textile sector.
