DMK MP Kanimozhi has submitted a notice in Parliament opposing the introduction of key bills related to the proposed redelimitation of constituencies.
The move comes as a special session of Parliament convenes to take up major constitutional amendments, including proposals linked to the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act. Among the legislations scheduled for introduction are the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Constituencies (Redelimitation) Bill, 2026, and the Union Territories (Laws Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The proposed redelimitation exercise, which includes increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats to 850, has triggered political opposition, particularly in Tamil Nadu.
Protests were reported across the State, with black flags hoisted at several residences. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wore black attire and hoisted a black flag at Nallipalayam in Namakkal district. DMK cadres, led by the Chief Minister, also staged demonstrations, including burning copies of the proposed bill.
Amid these developments, Kanimozhi formally registered her opposition in Parliament against all three bills, signalling continued resistance from the DMK over the redelimitation proposal.
