Tiruvannamalai Collector inspects door-to-door distribution of Pongal gift tokens

With preparations under way for the distribution of Pongal gift packages announced by the Tamil Nadu government, Tiruvannamalai District Collector K. Tharpagaraj on Tuesday personally inspected the door-to-door distribution of tokens to family card holders.
The inspection was carried out at Om Sakthi Nagar in Vengikal, falling under the Tiruvannamalai Corporation limits. During the visit, the Collector reviewed the token distribution process and issued instructions to officials to ensure smooth and timely implementation of the scheme.
As part of the Pongal festival celebrations, the State government has announced a comprehensive gift package for all rice family card holders and families residing in Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camps. The package includes one kilogram of raw rice, one kilogram of sugar, a full-length sugarcane, a dhoti or saree, and cash assistance of Rs. 3,000.
In Tiruvannamalai district alone, a total of 7,89,267 family card holders and camp residents are set to benefit from the scheme. Supplies for the programme are being distributed to 1,750 fair price shops across the district. The distribution of Pongal gift sets at ration shops is scheduled to begin from January 8.
Officials are currently distributing tokens to households, informing beneficiaries of the specific date and time to collect their Pongal gift set from the respective fair price shops. The Collector verified this process on the ground and stressed the importance of completing token distribution efficiently.
It was also clarified that any eligible member whose name appears on the family card can collect the Pongal gift package after biometric fingerprint verification.
Officials present during the inspection included District Cooperative Societies Zonal Joint Registrar S. Parthiban, District Circle Supply and Consumer Protection Officer M. Sathiskumar, and Deputy Registrar P. Vinoth, along with other departmental
staff.
