The Madhya Pradesh Government High School at Patigwan in Maihar district has landed in controversy after midday meals were served to students on notebook and book paper during Republic Day celebrations.
According to reports, a special lunch was arranged for students on January 26, but instead of plates, food was distributed on sheets torn from notebooks and textbooks.
A video showing students eating meals wrapped in paper quickly went viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from the public and opposition parties.
What has further fuelled the outrage is the revelation that funds had already been sanctioned for the purchase of plates for students under the midday meal
scheme. Despite this, the basic requirement was allegedly ignored.
Taking serious note of the lapse, the District Collector has issued show-cause notices to District Project Coordinator Vishnu Tripathi and the in-charge of the midday meal section, seeking explanations for their negligence.
Reacting to the incident, Congress State spokesperson Sangeeta Sharma slammed the ruling BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, questioning its claims of good
governance.
“Is this what the government calls efficient administration?” she asked.
The incident has revived memories of a similar controversy last year in Sheopur district, where midday meals were also served on paper, raising recurring concerns over the implementation of welfare schemes in the
State.
