Authorities of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have sealed a residential property owned by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in Srinagar Colony over long-pending property tax arrears.
Officials said property tax amounting to around Rs. 1.60 crore had remained unpaid for several years despite repeated notices issued to the concerned parties. With no response or settlement of dues, the civic body initiated action and sealed the bungalow on Tuesday.
The property, located in a prime residential area of Hyderabad, has reportedly remained under dispute and unattended for a prolonged period, contributing to the accumulation of tax liabilities.
Corporation officials stated that the action was taken in accordance with municipal regulations governing recovery of property tax dues. They added that further steps would depend on the response from legal heirs or authorised representatives.
The development has drawn attention due to the property’s association with the late leader, who served multiple terms as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Officials reiterated that similar action would be taken against other properties with long-pending tax arrears as part of enforcement measures.
